Hi, I'm Preet β the person behind Gluten Retrenchment. ππΌ
I've lived with gluten intolerance for over 15 years, and over time, I've learnt that food is so much more than fuel. It's comfort, culture, identity, memories β and joy.
Growing up in Singapore, I also learnt how difficult gluten-free living could be. There were limited options, familiar foods I could no longer eat, and far too many occasions where I had to wonder what was actually safe to have. I spent years dealing with the challenges of gluten intolerance, while trying (and often failing!) to recreate the foods I grew up loving.
Then, in May 2025, I was retrenched.
It was unexpected, uncomfortable and, ultimately, a turning point.
After a lot of reflection β and many cups of tea βοΈ β I started asking myself a different question:
What if I stopped looking for the next job and started building something of my own?
That question led me back to something I had always loved: food.
I began experimenting with gluten-free, millet-based baking, working on recipes that weren't simply βgood for gluten-freeβ β but food that I genuinely wanted to eat and share.
And that's how Gluten Retrenchment began.
But as I explored the gluten-free food landscape, I realised that the gap was much bigger than baking.
There are so many gluten-free products that are difficult to find in Singapore β from everyday snacks and pantry favourites to products I'd discovered overseas and wished I could simply buy here.
So Gluten Retrenchment began to grow.
Today, we're building beyond our own bakes: creating gluten-free, millet-based products while also searching for and bringing in carefully selected gluten-free foods that deserve a place in Singapore.
The goal remains the same:
To make gluten-free living more joyful, more accessible, and far less restrictive.
Because I don't believe that going gluten-free should mean giving up the food you love.
I believe it should mean discovering more food you love.
And for me, Gluten Retrenchment is about more than food.
It's about what happens when life doesn't go according to plan β and you choose to rebuild anyway.
What started as my gluten-free journey after retrenchment has become my craft, my business, and a way to help others navigate theirs.
So if you're here β whether you need to eat gluten-free, love gluten-free food, or simply want to discover something delicious β welcome.
Let's make gluten-free living joyful, accessible, and absolutely delicious. πΏ
